Why did you locate in your area?
The Downtown is the heart of any city, and its condition impacts the entire city, directly and indirectly. Shawnee's Downtown was once a thriving center of commerce and community - and it can be again if merchants locate there and consumers & patrons support those businesses. That's the only way our Downtown will come to life again, and we, along with many others, are committed to that vision. It's been noted that the Downtown is the only common space that belongs to everyone - it's a place where all people are welcome, a place where community can be experienced. The vision of a thriving Downtown isn't a pipe dream - it's happening all over the country as people reclaim what it means to be in community that isn't just relegated to nostalgic remembrances of days gone by. Where do you get your merchandise?
From all over, but mostly the USA. We do not stock merchandise made in countries known for poor working conditions, and we do our best to verify that our items and/or their components are imported through fair-trade. Much of what we stock is crafted by individual USA artisans.
Can I sell my artwork or products at your store?
We carry a very small amount of consignment work, which is procured by invitation. However, we do offer wall space inside our shop called Mingle (adjoining the studio) , which can be rented to approved artists & artisans. Acceptance is based on availability, quality, and proportion of medium to what is currently being exhibited. For more information, click HERE
What kinds of classes do you offer?
A large variety, but currently we are putting together textile courses, including basic sewing & crochet. Keep in touch with our offerings by subscribing to our e-newsletter, visiting the events page regularly, and following us on facebook or twitter.
Why aren't you open more days of the week?
We both wear many hats, and one of us is starting a doctorate program in the fall. It's not possible to man the shop as many days of the week as we would like, but as our business grows we'll hire additional friendly people so that we can be open more often. Until then, we are happy to serve you Wednesday-Saturday (except during severe storm warnings!).
Do you take credit cards?
Yes! We take all major credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express.
Do you have gift cards?
Yes, and they are very cool - individually made by us, which means you may need to wait on us to make one, or send us a message in advance so that we can have it prepped!
