Workshop: Artist Trading Cards

Taught by Susie Clinard, this is sure to be a fun class for artists and non-artists alike. Here's the description from the instructor:

"This workshop is for beginners or those who want to re-discover the joy of creating art for arts’ sake.  In this 2- hour workshop, you will create miniature works of art on playing cards.  ATC’s can be any medium; however for this workshop, the focus is on collage using paper, tissue, magazine images and other ephemera, along w/paint, colored pencils, stickers, rubberstamps and found objects.  Materials will be supplied but participants are encouraged to bring favorite scraps and memorabilia to incorporate into their designs.

Miniature works of art have been around since the 16th century in Europe, first as miniature portraits and then in the mid-1700’s as art cards for advertising.  By the 20th century Impressionist painters began trading their original art among themselves to study one another’s styles and techniques.  Trading cards became popular in America as baseball cards.   Fast forward to 1997 when Swiss artist M. Vanci Stirnemann created the now popular ATC movement."

Susie Clinard has been featured in a number of shows in Oklahoma and Savannah, including the Savannah College of Art & Design; she was featured artist for ShopSCAD's show "The Art of Devotion ('09); Gallery Espresso in Savannah hosted her solo show "I Should Have Been a Cowgirl" in 2010. She recently relocated to Shawnee, has shown at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art and is the Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Downtown Arts Association.
